Valentine's Disco

Dr Busker

What’s On

News from the CSSC

Valentine's Disco

As this got missed last year due to an extra booking, we're resurrecting the Valentine's Disco. It takes place on 11th February, starting about 8pm (but might be earlier if there's a few younger members want to attend) and everyone is welcome. Entry is FREE and there will be fun and games during the evening. Hope to see you there.

Dr Busker and the Dorset Rats

Back by popular demand, we have booked Dr Busker to return and perform with a different group from last year. This said, we expect it to be as good as last year with different songs, plus a few favourites. It is an OVER 18's event and tickets go on sale at the end of January. There is a single entry fee of £6 and you should look forward to an evening of thoroughly bawdy entertainment.

New Year's Eve

This year's event was very successful, even though John and Chris stepped down from organising everything. The good work John and Chris started has paid off, as members took up the task of bringing food and arranging music and games. A good night was had by all.

Garfield Weston Foundation and other pledges

We are pleased to announce that the Garfield Weston Foundation has pledged £25,000 towards the costs of the new Sports Centre . The Trustees of the John Clements Sports and Community are very grateful for this support which, together with recent local contributions, raises our funds/pledges raised to £357,000 . An application for £350,000 has also just been made for National Lottery Funds via Sport England.

The Trustees of the John Clements Sports and Community Trust are pleased to announce a grant of £20,000 from the Sylvia Adams Charitable Trust towards the new building.
This charitable trust supports organisations which give socially excluded children and young people opportunities to become resilient and capable adults, especially through challenging activities, sport and the arts. It also supports organisations that are working to empower people with a disability through cultural and sporting opportunities getting them access to employment. This fits well with the plans for the youth room in the new Centre and the sports clubs' general drive to involve more young people in sport and we have established links with EFDS ( English Federation of Disability Sport) to develop programmes for the disabled with Herts Sports Partnership.

The Trustees thank the Sylvia Adams Charitable Trust for this pledge which raises total pledges so far to £330,000.

The John Clements and Community Trust ( charitable trust no. 1139009 )is very pleased to announce that Lafarge Aggregates & Concrete UK have agreed to provide funding of £50,000 to the new proposed Sports and Community Centre with a build start targeted for the summer 2012 and completion in early 2013 .
Mike Pendock, southern regional planning and estates manager for Lafarge, said: "We are committed to supporting communities close to our operations and the new John Clements Sports and Community Centre is exactly the sort of project we are keen to champion.
"Not only will it provide a fantastic sports facility for local families when completed ,it is also bringing people together now to make sure funds are raised and the project is a success."
The Trustees of the charity are very grateful to Lafarge for this contribution which is administered via the Derbyshire Environmental Trust and Groundwork Hertfordshire and which increases the amount raised to date to £310,000 .
The Trustees, together with the fund raising specialists Midas who have helped in this successful bid for funds, continue to be very active in the further raising of funds.
